SHOE REPAIR SHOP OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
The Shoe Repair Shop of the Year competition is an initiative of the Dutch Shoemakers Association. In this contest, customer support plays a crucial role, as customers themselves help determine the nominees. The jury selected the finalists based on the following criteria:
- Customers could nominate their favorite shoe repair shop by posting reviews on the internet and Facebook.
- Customers could submit nominations via the official website form.
- Business owners could launch their own campaign using the hashtag #SchoenmakerijvhJaar on social media or even be nominated by a colleague.
After nominations were received, selected businesses underwent an unannounced visit by a panel of industry experts. The jury assessed the quality of repair work, the overall appearance of the shop, and the professionalism of the shoemaker. Additionally, the winning business needed to serve as a role model for the industry and its owner as an ambassador for the trade. This year, the competition saw an exceptionally high standard of finalists.
WINNER: MASTER SHOEMAKER RICHARD FROM AALSMEER
Recently, Richard relocated his business after 34 years from Ouderkerk aan de Amstel to Aalsmeer. Not only did his loyal customers follow him, but he quickly won over new customers in the area as well. His new, more spacious shop reflects his unique style and offers a carefully curated selection of complementary products. Richard is known for his friendly and cheerful nature, as well as his outstanding craftsmanship. With a wide range of products and exceptional repair quality, he is a true ambassador for the shoe repair industry.
SECOND PLACE: SHOE REPAIR SHOP PETERS FROM ELST
In 2014, the sixth generation of shoemakers took over this long-standing family business. Today, the shop is run by Jos, Hetty, and their son Lars van der Velden. Their spacious and well-organized store embodies the essence of a professional shoe repair shop. Located in a prime area, the business is expanding further with podology services. Customers highly appreciate their expertise, friendly service, and customer-focused approach.
THIRD PLACE: SHOE REPAIR & KEY SERVICE DETZ FROM GRONINGEN
With an impressive and diverse product range, Shoe Repair & Key Service Detz pleasantly surprised the jury. The owner was overwhelmed by the enthusiastic support from his customers. Known for his friendliness and expertise, he continuously explores new opportunities both within and beyond the shoe repair trade. Loved by his customers, Detz was nominated for his outstanding service, fair pricing, and commitment to quality.
