Heritage since 1815
“From Shoe Factory to International Brand. There is a law of nature that says all that is great started small. So did Van Lier. In the year 1815, on Langstraat in the Brabant town of Loon op Zand, lay the Van Lier family's workshop. And it was there-in the center of the Dutch shoe industry of the time-that the Van Lier family began making shoes. Van Lier's entrepreneurial instinct noted that competition in the Langstraat was fierce. So Van Lier began to innovate. The family traveled the world in search of the best tanneries for the finest leather. Fine calfskin leather was bought from Le Puy in France, strong and tough tooled leather came from Horween in Chicago, sole leather from England and chic and fashionable tooled leather from Italy.
Now that the family had the finest raw materials they began experimenting with production techniques, processing methods and played with color and texture. Developed new lasts that were both chic and comfortable, because even then Van Lier wanted the well-to-do man to get value for his money. Past, Present, Future That philosophy has brought the company to where it stands 200 years later.
Van Lier still buys from many of the tanneries of the past. And continues to develop, play with color and experiment with fits. So Van Lier now has an extra 200 years of experience and combines traditional knowledge with modern techniques. In this way, Van Lier delivers the shoe of tomorrow every day. That was the case back then and nothing changes. ”
